Throughout the year, students from our schools are given the amazing opportunity to perform at some of the UK's most famous theatres. This year, 32 of our schools are joining us to perform at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Most famously known as the home of Phantom Of The Opera, the site of Her Majesty’s has been associated with a playhouse longer than any other theatre in London (with the exception of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane). Destroyed by fire twice, there have been four rebuilds and multiple name changes in its history.
Originally opened in 1705, there have been a number of historical moments at the theatre, the first of Mozart’s operas ever to be heard in London was performed here along with Beethoven’s first UK performance of Fidelio.
Four years after the demolition of the long-standing building, actor Herbert Beerbohm Tree started to rebuild the theatre. As part of the design, a flat was included under the copper dome of the roof which later became the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
The Phantom of the Opera is still playing to capacity, making it the longest run and most successful production in the theatre’s history. Stagecoach have been performing at Her Majesty's since November 2003. Making our performance in November the 40th time we have been on stage here.
