Stagecoach Summer Showcase – Celebrating 35 Years
The lights dim, the audience applauses, the curtain raises, the excitement grows. It’s time for Summer Showcase 2026. With this being our 35th anniversary, we are particularly excited to be sharing Sister Act with you.
This Showcase represents weeks of dedication from students and teachers alike. In this blog, I will be highlighting the significance of Summer Showcase, the student experience, community and impact. Whether you are performing, are one of our backstage heroes or coming along to experience it, we cannot wait to see you.
Founded in 1988, the first Stagecoach was formed by Stephanie Manuel in Surrey. When created, Stagecoach wasn’t just about performing arts, it was about confidence and creativity. These are the morals that we are still proud of and runs through everything that we do today. Our slogan Creative Courage for Life has never been more important in today’s world. Since 1988, we have gone global – opening franchises in Malta, Germany, Spain, Gibraltar, Australia, Canada, Lithuania and the list only keeps growing!
Our annual Summer Showcase began in 1991, originally a show to bring together students from several Stagecoach schools. It has now evolved to a full musical production in which Stagecoach Students get full industry knowledge. We have been gothic with the Addam’s family, been joyful with Bring It On: The Musical, have flown above the clouds with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and we are thrilled to begin production on Sister Act.
35 years of Summer Showcase is something we are particularly excited to share with you. Summer Showcase has been described as a once in a lifetime experience in which students are taught by trained professionals, they perform on a breathtaking set (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang saw a flying car) and the costumes are nothing short of extraordinary. Students from all ages come together to present the progress and creativity that they have developed throughout the year.
However, it is worth noting that this experience is not for the faint hearted! It is an intense 2 week experience of rehearsals, but it is something that students will never forget. It prepares them for what the world of productions is actually like. Countless students have experienced this and gone on to be successful in the industry.
The skills our students will learn are ones they will carry for life. Not just the rehearsals, but the importance of teamwork and learning lines. They will also develop confidence, creativity and collaboration. Seeing the students go from nothing to working their hardest for 2 weeks to create a fully professional show means the world to them. There is a significant mix between first time performance and experienced students, but everybody is taught at the same level.
However, we can’t celebrate Stagecoach Summer Showcase without mentioning the amazing behind the scenes heroes. Teachers are there to guide students through the rehearsals, choreography, direction and musical coaching. These teachers help students grow beyond the performance. Our Assistant Choreographer, Joe Gray, has been a part of Summer Showcase for over a decade – starting out when he was just six years old when he was in Little Shop of Horrors, he has grown from ensemble to leadership. When asked what the best part of Summer Showcase was he responded:
“As a boy who loved dance, that wasn’t always something I could talk about at school. But at Showcase, everyone’s like you. You don’t have to hide. You’re surrounded by others who get it.”
Stagecoach Summer Showcase has always fostered a sense of belonging. Finding likeminded people and creating friends for life through an incredible experience. Support from friends and families make Summer Showcase what it is. Without them, we would have no show. The sense of community that is built through performing arts is created, as Joe Gray’s mother, Becki says:
“It’s a bubble. A beautiful, joyful bubble where kids can be themselves. I once heard a student say, ‘Stagecoach is the two weeks of the year I get to be me.’ And that’s exactly what it is.”
Events like Summer Showcase also highlight a strong sense of community that surrounds Stagecoach schools. Students support one another backstage, teachers encourage every performer and audiences celebrate every achievement – big or small.
Marking 35 years of Stagecoach’s Summer Showcase is a remarkable achievement. Over the decades, the organisation has helped countless young people discover their creativity, build their confidence and develop the skills that stay with them for life.
This year, we hope to show both a reflection on that legacy and a celebration of the future. The talent, enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the students on stage demonstrated that the spirit of Stagecoach is stronger than ever.
Summer Showcase represents much more than a single evening of entertainment. It symbolises passion, growth and community that have defines Stagecoach. We cannot wait to see you at casting day!
