21st June at The Windmill Theatre
Summer Workshop: Early Stages (4 - 7 years)
On the 21st of June, we performed at the Windmill Theatre in Hove. There were long, wonderful rehearsals, musical challenges, glorious dance routines, all based around 'Star Wars'!
So, after all the rehearsals, sourcing the Jedi capes from China and leg-warmers from all over the place, we had a wonderful day in Hove at the Windmill Theatre. We were scheduled to close the show and, I have to say, we were very excited. 'Star Wars: The Musical' was extremely well-received; mostly, the audience laughed a lot, whooped their approval and enjoyed our students' work. Can't ask for more than that!
Student on the big screen
We're all a bit excited! Actually, a lot more than a bit! This weekend sees the opening of 'Mr Holmes', the new film about Sherlock's final case. Holmes is played by Ian McKellan, an elderly version of Holmes, who has moved down to the south-east coast. Little does he know that there is much to uncover..! Stagecoach Eastbourne student Luke stars in the film as the body double of a young boy who befriends Holmes. He spent four days on set with Ian McKellan, ate great food, laughed a lot and, by the final day, he didn't want to leave. Who could blame him? Well done Luke!
Our young kids, four to seven years, will work on a musical, specially written for them, called 'Brock Rock!'. Billy, a young badger has only one dream: he wants to be a rock star! The problem is that no badger has ever played guitar and sung like Billy. Then, one day, three glamorous squirrels arrive at the sett and everything changes!
Summer Workshop: Main Stages (7 - 18 years)
For our older students we've decided to tackle a real favourite: 'Honk!' for their summer workshop. This re-telling of the Ugly Duckling story is funny and exciting; it also has parts for all and some really brilliant songs. It opened in the West End in 1999 and, in 2000, it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical.'
