This course is intended for candidates who have a strong background in teaching. If your accredited prior learning is recognised by the examining body you can bypass Unit One and proceed straight to Stagecoach's Fast Track Teaching Diploma Preparation Course.

The Fast Track Diploma Preparation Course aims to ensure that candidates are confident in the following areas in preparation for the ADPA (Unit Two) examination:

1. The ability to make balanced judgements, backed by sound reasoning, on a variety of teaching styles.

These will include observations on:

• Communication style
• Use of language
• Engagement of learners
• Structure of lesson
• Variety within lesson
• General teaching approaches
• Inclusivity awareness
• Selection of material for age-range

2. The demonstration of effective approaches to a given teaching scenario, bearing in mind the need for the following:

• A warmth of manner and an engaging energy
• An awareness of opportunities for creativity
• Appropriate 'warm-up' in drama, dance & voice
• An inviting approach to the introduction of subject matter
• Appropriate teaching strategies for children with special educational needs within the class
• Satisfactory intervention when confronted by inappropriate learner behaviour
• The flexibility to change tactics in the lesson if necessary

3. An awareness of current relevant issues connected with the role of teacher, eg:

• Health and Safety issues
• Child protection
• What constitutes appropriate material within the teaching of performing arts context

4. An overview of children with special syndromes, plus a more detailed study of two syndromes, eg.

• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
• Aspergers Syndrome
