Six year old Stagecoach Cambridge student Diya Shafique recently played of the leading roles in the Corn Exchange's show, Annie. Appearing alongside Su Pollard as Miss Hannigan, Diya made her stage debut as one of the orphans in the musical.
Stagecoach Cambridge Principal, Angharad Walter said "Diya is an exceptional talented young performer. Her singing voice is so beautiful; At the auditions, when she sang, she made people cry. I am very excited to see to see how she will progress over the years to come!"
Young Diya was not the only Stagecoach Cambridge student to appear in Annie. Darcy Manning, 11, played Pepper, one of the orphans. Although no newcomer to roles in professional productions - Darcy has had parts at Cambridge Corn Exchange in Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
The Annie tour played for the last time at the Corn Exchange, having started out in the West End, and Darcy and Diya were two of just eight orphans - aside from Annie - appearing in it.
The show told the story of a little girl left on the steps of a New York City orphanage, who is determined to find her real parents.
