Further training for older students
Further Stages is a separate class specifically for older students aged 15+ years, who have been attending a main Stagecoach school. Outside students are welcome, although it is required that students have a good level of performing arts skills to ensure that everyone can get the best out of the classes. The class aims to carry on the further development of musical theatre skills through more advanced dance, singing and acting training and masterclasses.Designed to equip young adults with the tools they need to audition for vocational drama and musical theatre schools, Further Stages training covers the three disciplines in more depth to build ‘triple threat’ performers.
In dance classes students can try out new dance styles and routines, including street dance, hip hop, jazz and jazz funk increasing their flexibility and confidence, enhancing their ability to pick up steps quickly and smoothly.
In the acting sessions, monologues and duologues will encourage further development of character work, vocal projection and emotional connection. Placed in a safe environment young adults are encouraged to take risks with their interpretation of text and improvisation. Sight reading and accent work will also feature throughout the year, stretching the vocal ability and range needed for some scripts.
Working as a group, students learn more complex harmonies and intricate songs in their singing sessions. Solo singing will equip young performers with the confidence and skill to find the true meaning of a song and portray the character and emotion of that song with ease. Students will have opportunities to perform and present their work to family and friends.
Former Further Stages students have gone on to prestigious drama and musical theatre schools including RADA, LAMDA, LIPA, Guildhall, Mountview, GSA, Arts Ed, Urdang Academy, Bird Academy and Italia Conti.
