Advanced musical theatre classes, developing acting, singing and dancing skills.
Further Stages is a weekly two or three hour advanced musical theatre course for Stagecoach students aged 15/16 years and over. Students have regular
drama classes, dance classes and
singing classes, and are encouraged to use all three disciplines with confidence. Places are only offered to existing Stagecoach students who can be recommended by their principal.
They will need to have a mature attitude and a good level of confidence and ability before enrolling into the group. Further Stages students also have the opportunity to concentrate on their own particular performance skills under the direction of their teachers. The group's performance work is designed to showcase the abilities of the class in the best possible light.
The class aims to carry on the further development of musical theatre skills through more advanced dance, singing and acting training and masterclasses. Designed to equip young adults with the tools they need to audition for vocational drama and musical theatre schools, Further Stages training covers the three disciplines in more depth to build 'triple threat' performers.
In dance classes students can try out new dance styles and routines, including street dance, hip hop, jazz and jazz funk increasing their flexibility and confidence, enhancing their ability to pick up steps quickly and smoothly.
In the acting sessions, monologues and duologues will encourage further development of character work, vocal projection and emotional connection. Placed in a safe environment young adults are encouraged to take risks with their interpretation of text and improvisation. Sight reading and accent work will also feature throughout the year, stretching the vocal ability and range needed for some scripts.
Working as a group, students learn more complex harmonies and intricate songs in their singing sessions. Solo singing will equip young performers with the confidence and skill to find the true meaning of a song and portray the character and emotion of that song with ease.
Students will have opportunities to perform and present their work to family and friends.
Former Further Stages students have gone on to prestigious musical theatre and drama schools including RADA, LAMDA, LIPA, Guildhall, Mountview, GSA, Arts Ed, Urdang Academy, Bird Academy and Italia Conti.
