Meet our teachers


Principal - Jane Heckman
Jane Heckman is Principal of the Denbigh school and is an established teacher of dance. Once a performer herself and now passing on her vast knowledge to her many pupils.

Jane began her dancing at the age of 7 gaining the highest grade in all of her R.A.D graded examinations (this had never been achieved in her school before!).

At the of 16 Jane was awarded a place at the prestigious Hammond School in Chester where she studied all forms of dance: ballet, tap, modern, jazz, contempory, pointe and character. Jane left Hammond with her dance and teaching qualification, and taught at various locations and schools.

Having such a love for dancing Jane decided to open her own dance school in 1990. The school began with one class of 15 pupils and now this has grown to nearly 200!

Jane strives to deliver an enjoyable experience in Stagecoach Denbigh with an emphasis on enjoyment!
Dance Coach - April Bates
April is passionate about dance, having performed competitively from the age of 6 years old; she knew she would pursue the hobby as her chosen career. Her love of performing continued and at 18, April won a 3yr Professional Musical Theatre scholarship at SLP in Leeds, undertaking dancing, singing and acting. Whilst at college April's credits included, Woodstock in 'Snoopy the Musical', Mary Hennessey in 'Once a Catholic', Gemma in 'She's Behind You', Rumpleteaser in 'Cats' and her final role as Charity in 'Sweet Charity'. April was awarded second highest marked student for her 2010 graduating year group. She is also a qualified IDTA freestyle dance teacher. Other works include Cabaret, Leeds Metropole, I've Got Rhythm, Westside Story and Swing Low Sweet Chariot at Olympia London.
April has been very fortunate having worked with top choreographers including Gary Lloyd (Thriller Live) and Anthony Van Laast (Hair the Musical & Mama Mia - film). April has worked with well-known producer and songwriter Mike Stock (Stock Aitkin & Waterman), writing and recording songs.
April has worked both on and off stage, performing and choreographing, from musical theatre and television to commercial pop videos and professional pantomime.
April is currently Flintshire's Lead Dance Coach and has taught dance, at BTEC, GCSE and A level.
April is delighted to be working at Stagecoach Denbigh and hopes to inspire the next generation of performers.
Singing Coach - Tracy Jones
Tracy is excited to be joining Denbigh Stagecoach, having trained initially at the Elliott-Clarke College of Dance and Drama. She then went on to graduate in the first student intake from LIPA with 1st class honours in Performing Arts. Whilst at LIPA she was invited to perform at the first ever pop concert at Buckingham Palace for the Queen and former Prime Minister and by Sir Paul McCartney at his wife's funeral.

Singing credits include Principal Singer MV Kareliya, Hotel Residency Dubai, Stars International Tanzania, Five Star Cabaret Malta, backing vocals for Marti Pellow, Ken Dodd, Claire Sweeney, Barbara Dixon and The Nolans.
Her professional theatre credits include the highly acclaimed Mrs Lyons in Blood Brothers (covered and played Mrs Johnstone in over 100 performances National tour and West End), Nicola in Girls Night Out in Ibiza (national tour), Soloist in Closer Than Ever (Liverpool Everyman & NSDF), Victoria /Maud in Cloud Nine (NSDF), Belle in Beauty & the Beast (Minehead Children's Theatre), Pauline in One For The Road and Rita in Educating Rita (Chameleon Theatre Rep), Hazel in Up 'n' Under (Robin Hood Theatre), Patti in Extremities (Liverpool Neptune), Miss Gibson in Daisy Pulls it Off (Liverpool Neptune).
London fringe credits include Molly in Storytime (Landor) and Claudia in Elegies (Kings Head).
TV includes Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Medics, In Suspicious Circumstances, Sherlock Holmes, and short films leaving Us Behind, The Blast Project, Guest House and an artist in residence at Bradford uni media course.

She has taught children in drama and musical theatre workshops for a number of years including at Bradfords Stage 84, Hull College, Birmingham Hippodrome, Bradford Alhambra, Norwich Theatre Royal, Aberdeen His Majesty's, for Knowsley Borough Council, Theatre Active, Rhymetime, Jump, Cragrats, Liverpool City Council, and is also a private Voice Tutor.
Drama Coach - Jamie Evans
Jamie trained at LIPA and is an experienced actor on both Stage and screen. He has been involved in Bill Kenwright's production of Blood Brothers for many years playing the roles of: Mickey (understudy) Postman and Neighbour.

Jamie has also been involved in many plays, commercials and also a member of a boy band! He has vast experience in teaching the performing arts and is lucky enough to have masses of performance experience behind him too.

Jamie is very excited about joining the Stagecoach Denbigh team and passing on his knowledge to the pupils.


Early Stages Coach - Laura Heckman
Laura's experience of working with young children is vast and covers a wide range of educational and theatrical disciplines, including Dance Teacher at Jane's Studios. She has successfully put pupils through I.D.T.A. examinations and helped to choreograph and teach children's routines in preparation for annual productions at the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre and London's West End. Laura has studied ballet with I.D.T.A. as well as tap and modern dance. She studied singing with North Wales Music Tuition.

Laura studied Drama and Theatre Studies to A level standard and has since built upon these skills in many productions. She has appeared in amateur productions of Oklahoma, Me and My Girl, Hot Mikado, Return to the Forbidden Planet and has played the lead role as Maria in West Side Story and Nancy in Oliver. Professionally, Laura has appeared in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

As a past pupil of Stagecoach, she is honoured to be the Early Years teacher with her continuing love of everything theatrical which has stemmed from the way in which she has been taught. Laura says that Stagecoach gave her a fantastic insight to theatre life and the skills she gained are invaluable. She will never forget her Stagecoach experience and her aim is to leave your children feeling the same way.
